2011 FAN-TASTIC AUCTION
The Fan-Tastic Auction is designed for you-the Sports fan! We have items from professional baseball players, football gear, signed basketball memorabilia and a Derek Jeter commemorative plaque and much more. All proceeds from the event will go to fund our vision of providing opportunities for our countries disadvantaged youth as they strive to overcome life’s obstacles. In the past year we have funded sports programs, youth events and donated to youth organizations around the country. You can help us to make a difference!

STRIKES FOR KIDS
Strikes for Kids Bowling Event benefiting St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children. January 30th 2010. Strikes Bowling Entertainment and Family Fun Center. Elk Grove, CA. Derrek Lee hosts D. Lee Scholars at Chicago Cubs v. San Francisco Giants. September 27th, 2009. AT&T Park. San Francisco, CA. 75 D. Lee Scholars and their chaperons had a once in a lifetime experience as they had a private meet and greet with Derrek Lee to discuss setting goals and achieving dreams. Swing for Sight benefiting Project 3000 and Society for the Blind November 1-2, 2008. Catta Verdera Country Club. Catta Verdera, CA. Raised $90,000 for Project 3000 and Society for the Blind. Celebrity Athlete in attendance included: Derrek Lee, Tom Pernice Jr., Kevin Sutherland, C.C. Sabathia, Rickey Jordon, Andy Fox, and more. CHARITY WINES FUNDRAISER
Charity Wines Fundraiser (Press Conference) June 2010. Chicago, IL. Raised over $5,000 for 1st Touch Foundation Caberlee was a limited release wine by Charity Wines. Caberlee is a 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from San Martin, California. Wine sale proceeds benefitted Derrek Lee’s 1st Touch Foundation. Chicago Cubs Star Derrek Lee to Host ‘Strikes for Kids’ Event to Benefit Area Families in Need
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Chicago Cubs star and Sacramento native Derrek Lee and his 1st Touch Foundation will host “Strikes for Kids,” a celebrity bowling event to benefit area families in need through the St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children. As gene-specific treatments like RPE65 gene replacement therapy become more widely available, a precise molecular diagnosis can be an important step toward treatment. Gene therapy improves sight in near-blind patients
Although both trials were only testing for safety, patients reported they could see a little better afterwards, the researchers told a meeting of eye specialists in Florida and also reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Gene Therapy Improves Vision In Nearly Blind Patients
ScienceDaily (Apr. 28, 2008) — In a clinical trial at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, researchers from The University of Pennsylvania have used gene therapy to safely restore vision in three young adults with a rare form of congenital blindness. Although the patients have not achieved normal eyesight, the preliminary results set the stage for further studies of an innovative treatment for this and possibly other retinal diseases.
